The cyclone Nargis reached Delta area of Burma on May 3rd. 150 mph wind destroyed the entire

region of Delta and damaged most part of Rangoon, the former capital of Burma also known as

Myanmar. The cyclone is followed by heavy rain and walls of sea water, which washed away many

villages and people. Three weeks after the cyclone, dead bodies of people and animals are still

floating in the rivers of the delta and stranded on banks of rivers.

Aid organizations around the world immediately responded to

the disaster. However, relief missions are hindered by

government authorities by blocking the road to the victims,

houses and villages. Many foreign aid workers are barred from

entering the delta and many supplies are robbed by authorities

on the way to victims. Some donated food, clothes and other

building materials are being sold at local markets, distributed

by soldiers during the nights. The government response to the

disaster is also very slow. Only two days after the cyclone, the

government sent soldiers to clean up Rangoon. After most of

the Rangoon has cleaned up, the government announced the end of relief mission and enter a new

phase of rebuilding communities, disregarding many people still without aid in the delta.

The paranoid government did not let US, UK and France warships, with tons of supplies, to move

into their water space fearing invasion. The French ship turned back on May 26 leaving tons of

supplies with World Food Program based in Thailand. After meeting with UN General secretary,

the government said it will allow foreign aid workers to go into the delta, but the process has been

very slow, if it is moving at all. By continuing with voting for referendum as scheduled, the

government shows total ignorance for the people. EU is attempting to charge the government for

crime against humanity.

Please keep in mind that most people in the delta are Christians and many are Karens, a tribe of

Burma who have been fighting against the government for over 60 years. That might explain why

the government care so little about the people there.

Fri. May 30                                            Their only refuge

Dear friends,

Burmese soldiers and military officers came over to one of KBC camp (Rangoon camp) yestereday and ordered everybody to move out of the camp and go back to their villages, where there is no place to live and some villiages are still under water. There has been lots of rain and Rangoon was flooded the beginning of this week. This morning, military trucks came over and started taking back to their villages without any resettlement plans. So, everybody on my web album will be living in mud again. KBC is planning resettlement plan (# 2) starting on June 2nd. It is very sad. Please continue to pray for the victims that they can get basic necessities, food, water, shelter, etc. Pray for their wellness and healthcare. Also pray for KBC leader for wisdom in dealing with the military and resettling people.

I just sent two boxes of medical supplies and have five more boxes to send. I can send only a little at a time, without being confiscated by custom authorities.

On the good side, many privite donors and foreigners are now able to access many areas with lesser restrictions from the authorities.

Many thanks for praying and donation.
